Jasmin Atwal is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors. She has her Masters in Counselling Psychology and Bachelors in Psychology and Counselling, with a focus on Asian studies. Jasmin has completed training level 1 of Gottman Method Couples Therapy. In practice she specializes in children and youth, she has worked cross-culturally with families and children who struggle with a range of concerns.
Professionally, Jasmin works both in the private and public mental health sectors. She has worked within the Surrey School District for several years, working with vulnerable youth, guiding and assisting students as needed, providing ongoing support to students with emotional distress, substance use concerns, and other related issues. Jasmin provided education, prevention and intervention services for students who are drug-active or at-risk of use, while also supporting parents/guardians as they try to deal with their son or daughter’s substance use.
Jasmin believes that creating a strong and trusting relationship is the key to change. Jasmin understands that it take courage to walk into a therapist’s office and share what is personal, private, and often painful. However, when provided the safe, trusting and non-judgemental environment one is able to feel open and comfortable.
Jasmin practices the highest ethical standards and protects the dignity and privacy of each client. The approaches that she uses are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-focused Therapy, and Mindfulness Based strategies, to name a few. When it fits for the client Jasmin likes to implement art and play therapy.
